Engaged Encounter-388th Weekend at Marriage Encounter house 11-13th January 2008

Engaged Encounter Mission Statement:

To help couples discover themselves and live out the call to be one in the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony as a life giving and life long commitment.

Engaged Encounter is ...

a weekend of beginnings..

a time of opening doors...

a planting of seeds...

a time of discovery...

Dear and i signed up for Engaged Encounter that is organised by the catholic faith this weekend. This course is highly encouraged by the church before a couple's wedding. So we being kiasu... haahahahah super kiasu i mean, we signed up for it. Boy are we glad that we did...

The sessions goes like this: A experienced couple would share their own experiences with us and then we are given a list of questions, take time to ponder over it separately and write our thoughts and feelings on our notebooks before we meet our significant other for him to read and then discuss about it.This gives us a chance to really write down our true feelings and to show each other our true feelings and made us face up to many issues that might be hard to do so under normal circumstances e.g in laws, finances, children planning etc. i think we found the session really useful and made us focus on only each other which we needed at this stage of our life together. After almost 8 years, we have thought that we knew each other in and out but this session has either reinforced what we knew of each other or brought out new quirks and feelings.
There was an instance where we had to write a love letter to each other and reaffirm our relationship. Finally, i reached my goal when we did this (Only dear knows what i am talking abt). This was especially heart warming for me.Also there was one session that we seek forgiveness from each other for past faults

i believed that we became closer as a couple and had a chance to spend time alone and time to discuss on our needs and wants as a couple.
Most of the 30 couples who attended found it a powerful and meaningful tool as well. they gave testimonals after the whole thing and some said that initally they did not want to attend but now are glad that they did.
It was heartening to see 30 couples being together and talk like " when is your big day or how is your flat going" freely and know that they are not bored of talking about it. :) Who gets bored talking about their wedding? Most of them are getting married this year, i think we are the most kiasu ones bah.. 2010 marry, now go liao hahahahah...But dear no worries, i know our turn will come...

But i never regret. i love the atmosphere and the way we came out as a more united couple after the encounter. For couples out there, i encourage you to atend this course, even if you are not catholics. This course really helps us work out our differences and teach us how to complement each other.

Our tags... so cute right? My parents still keep their from 26 years ago!

The lanyard which says : A wedding is a day, a marriage is a lifetime....
At the end of the encounter, we got a certificate of attendance and a rose from the session couples. They made it a celebration and congrats all the couples who finish the course. i didnt think that it was that hard to achieve. i actually felt sad that we reach the end of the course actually...
If you want to have a closer relationship with your significant other, you should consider this. i fell in love with dear all over again....
" Love one another uniquely, totally and irrevocably"

Kisses,
fifteenmay
